TAKING THE HOOPLA WORLDWIDE
Hula Hooping ¦It’s all Grown Up, Very Trendy and Becoming Very Sophisticated!
March 2006 - Ojai, CA It’s an interesting phenomenon, on one hand there’s the underground electronic scene & Burning Man crowd - filled with tribal sounds, fire dancing, rhythmic gyrations and American Indian/Gypsy-inspired fashions — on the other hand hooping is part of a high-end fitness movement (some of the finest spas are offering hooping classes as fitness programs.) Then there’s everyone in between who enjoys it as a fun pastime at home, festivals and casual get-togethers. Along every part of this spectrum there’s a common denominator: Diana Lopez and BodyHoops (www.bodyhoops.com). “The energy around hooping is picking up so much so that we are having to turn people away from our fitness classes,” states Diana.
Diana Lopez, a former school teacher, has developed her passion into a healthy obsession. Since launching BodyHoops in 2003, she has appeared at numerous festivals and community events, facilitates classes at the local recreation centers, and also teaches a weekly “Cardio Hoops” class at The Oaks Spa in Ojai, California. Recently, she has begun to take the hoopla worldwide on a spa tour. As a visiting guest teacher, at the Chiva-Som spa in Thailand, she taught daily classes for guests and staff and also amazed everyone with a firehooping nighttime performance. Her next spa visit will be at the Rancho La Puerta Spa in Mexico. As Diana puts it, she’s taking the “Hoopla Worldwide,” and continues to be a leader in the hooping revolution. As one of the most fun low-impact workouts ever, Diana is determined to share the fitness benefits with as many people as possible. These benefits include:
- flexing and strengthening core muscles
- developing coordination and fluidity of motion throughout the body
- a fun low-impact aerobic workout, where you can burn up to a hundred calories per 10 minutes
“There is such passion and true interest in hooping as an exercise form and physical fitness curriculum that we’ve established a teaching program, says Diana. Our BodyHoops Certification Program will enable teachers to introduce and teach hoop dance in a variety of settings.” The conference is being offered in beautiful Ojai, California August 4th - 6th and more information can be found at www.bodyhoops.com. In addition to the certification program, Bodyhoops manufactures durable, weighted hoops for both adults and children, and recently has released an instructional DVD, “Hoop Dance Fusion” both available on the BodyHoops website.
Join the hoopla, check out www.bodyhoops.com for more information about Diana’s DVD, classes, hooping performances, fire dancing, certification program and events. BodyHoops for dance, exercise and play!
